?GUT Mood Connection ?

What does the gut have to do with your mood?

  gut_flora

Your gut, aka “inside your belly”, has been proven to be your bodies literal “second brain”. For years, the medical world has been trying to figure out what causes our moods to change and what causes common problems that most of us face like stress, anxiety, and even depression. These are common problems, and we know they are linked to serotonin, but did you know that 95% of serotonin isn’t even produced in the brain ? Serotonin is actually produced in the gut. What we put inside of our bellies is directly related to our emotional health. Our gut consists of bacteria and we need that bacteria to have a healthy balance or the rest of us will not be balanced including our mood. Your gut and your brain work together, so if one is out of balance the other will be also. Have you ever had an upset stomach because your mind was stressed? Well, think about it, if it works one way it works both ways.

There have been many scientific studies that have linked mood problems to gut problems and vice versa.

Is your gut balanced with 85% good bacteria and 15% bad bacteria?

Probiotics Belly Diagram

That is the recipe for a healthy gut and a healthy mood. The best way to make sure your body has healthy bacteria for your gut is to feed your gut healthy bacteria. Some symptoms of an unhealthy gut include gas, bloating, nausea, sugar cravings, and more. The best way to make sure that your gut is getting the healthy nourishment it needs is through probiotics. Probiotics can be in pill form, or you can get them right through your diet. Excellent sources of probiotics include kefir and fermented or cultured foods and beverages. Keeping a healthy gut in check will help you to digest food properly, absorb vital nutrients, and maintain a healthy state of mind aka your mood.

? Why are Smoothies Important for Breakfast? ?

Why are smoothies important for breakfast?

Girl Big Glasses Green Smoothie White Text Box

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and sometimes it just doesn’t fit into our schedule the way it should. How we begin the day will determine how the rest of the day goes. It will determine if we feel energized or if we feel dragging with a lack of energy. What we put in our bellies is directly related to how we physically feel. So if you are a skip breakfast and grab the coffee mug morning person then this blog is totally for you. We all need and crave energy. I know I do! Sometimes it is so easy to want to grab a quick bowl of cereal or even forget breakfast and just get through the morning on 1-2 cups of coffee for the energy needed to survive the day. I don’t want you to just survive through the day though; I want you to thrive through the day. I also don’t want you to go on the “crash and crave” roller coaster for the entire day. If you begin your morning with caffeinated coffee and sugar, you will crash, and you will be either too tired to make it through your responsibilities or you will be reaching for another cup of coffee to get through a few more hours.

Smoothies are another quick alternative to a fast breakfast that can help energize us throughout the entire day. When you toss in some greens, a little fruit, and a healthy liquid like coconut water you are bound to feel energetic and ready to take on the day. Starting the day with a smoothie also gives you well needed antioxidants which help protect our bodies from free radicals, and it is a great low glycemic start. Eating a low glycemic breakfast will help curb your sugar cravings for the entire day and it will also help with not crashing. Next time you want a quick breakfast, try a delicious smoothie that will leave you feeling energized and motivated. A morning smoothie will provide your body with the nutrients it needs to produce natural energy and naturally boost your metabolism. So, what are you reaching for tomorrow morning? I know I will be pulling out my blender and getting ready for some long lasting energy.

?Can Diabetics Eat Fruit ? – Interview With Tasha Lee

Learn the truth about nutrition, not what we’ve been lead to believe…

One of my teachers and mentors from The International School of Detoxification, Marcie  shares “I’m a type 1 diabetic and I’ve cut out two shots a day and over 50 units by adopting a high fruit diet.” She and countless others are here to spread their success with a high fruit diet and how that is elevating their health and mitigating the symptoms of DisEASES. Tasha Lee another Type 1 Diabetic shares her story in the video below. If you are or know someone that is also diabetic PLEASE watch and share this. Learn the facts and truth about your body and it’s ability to transform itself on a high fruit and raw diet.

Have you ever heard that diabetics can’t eat fruit? How about that fruit has too much sugar? What would you say if I told you that animal protein and animal fats have been shown to cause larger and more extended blood sugar spikes than fruit? What if I also told you that many diabetics have found relief from unpredictable blood sugar levels by adopting a low fat, whole food vegan diet and lifestyle containing plenty of fruit? Is it possible that animal products are the main contributors to out of control blood sugar levels? It appears so!

In this video you will hear Tasha Lee share here story. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 11 years old. After spending most of her life trying a variety of diets and health plans, a low fat raw food lifestyle has given her back control of her life and her condition.

?Blending vs. Juicing with the Juice Daddy?

Blending vs. Juicing with the Juice Daddy

Jay Kordich

This is a question that we get asked all the time. Which is better: juicing or blending? Does one offer more health benefits than the other? Juices and smoothies both play an important role in any wellness program and we discuss the benefits of both all the time!

We believe that both juicing and blending are very beneficial, but in different ways.

What’s The Difference?

JUICING

Juicing is a process which extracts water and nutrients from produce  and discards the indigestible fiber.

Without all the fiber, your digestive system doesn’t have to work as hard to break down the food and absorb the nutrients. In fact, it makes the nutrients more readily available to the body in much larger quantities than if you were to eat the fruits and vegetables whole.

This is especially helpful if you have a sensitive digestive system or illness that inhibits your body from processing fiber. The fiber in produce helps slow down the digestive process and provides a steady release of nutrients into the blood stream. Jason Vale calls juicing “A nutrient express!”

Freshly squeezed vegetable juices form part of most healing and detoxification programs because they are so nutrient rich and nourish and restore the body at a cellular level.

A word of caution: When you remove the fiber from the produce, the liquid juice is absorbed into your blood stream quickly. If you are only juicing fruits, this would cause a rapid spike in blood sugar and unstable blood sugar  levels can lead to mood swings, energy loss, memory problems and more!

Fiber is also filling and without fiber in the juice, some people tend to get hungry again quickly.

BLENDING

Unlike juices, smoothies consist  of the entire entire fruit or vegetable, skin and all and contain all of the fiber from the vegetables.
However, the blending process breaks the fibre apart (which makes the fruit and vegetables easier to digest ) but also helps create a slow, even release of nutrients into the blood stream and avoids blood sugar spikes. Smoothies tend to be more filling, because of the fiber, and generally faster to make than juice, so they can be great to drink first thing in the morning as your breakfast, or for snacks throughout the day.

By including the fiber in your smoothie, the volume will increase. Also, you can pack more servings of fruits and veggies into a single serving of juice than you can into a smoothie.

Juicing and Blending Rules- try and follow for better absorption

1. It’s best not to combine fruits and vegetables (unless it’s apple). This can affect how well your digestive enzymes function.

This doesn’t seem to matter too much in green juices and smoothies, but vegetables like carrots, beetroots, broccoli and zucchini don’t combine well with fruit due to their high starch content. In his book Food Combining Made Easy, Dr. Herbert Shelton explains that starchy foods have to be eaten alone because starches are digested with enzymes different from those used for any other food group. Combining starchy foods with fruit may cause fermentation and gas. However, Dr. Shelton found that green leafy veggies combine well with pretty much everything.

2. Try to drink your juice or smoothie straight away. After 15 minutes, light and air will destroy much of the nutrients. If you can’t drink it straight away, transfer to a dark airtight container until you’re ready.

Using The Right Equipment

To get the most benefit from your juices and smoothies, it’s important to use the right equipment.Invest in a good-quality juicer. Cheaper, centrifugal juicers introduce heat and oxygen and destroy the enzymes and nutrients in your fruits and vegetables. While it may cost you a bit more initially, a premium cold-press juicer will produce a superior-quality juice and allow you to extract more from your fruit and vegetables, saving expense in the long-term.
The machines themselves will also generally last longer. In contrast to the rough extraction of centrifugal juicers, mastication or cold-press juicers compress fruit and vegetables to ‘squeeze’ out their juice.

The same goes for a blender. You want a blender that is gentle on your produce and doesn’t heat up the enzymes as it’s pulling apart the fibres. We spend money on gadgets, clothes, restaurants and other luxuries so, if you can afford it, investing in your health by buying a quality juicer or blender is totally worth it.

?Coconut Water?

Fresh Coconut Water

Coconut Water

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. “It’s a natural isotonic beverage, with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. It’s the fluid of life, so to speak.” In fact, during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water – siphoned directly from the nut – to give emergency plasma transfusions to wounded soldiers.
  2. Most coconut water is still consumed fresh in tropical coastal areas – once exposed to air, the liquid rapidly loses most of its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics, and begins to ferment.
  3. Coconut Water is More Nutritious than whole milk – Less fat and NO cholesterol!
  4. Coconut Water is More Healthy than Orange Juice – Much lower calories
  5. Coconut Water is Better than processed baby milk- It contains lauric acid, which is present in human mother’s milk
  6. Coconut water is naturally sterile — Water permeates though the filtering husk!
  7. Coconut water is a universal donor– Its identical to human blook plasma
  8. Coconut Water is a Natural Isotonic Beverage – The same level we have in our blood.
  9. Coconut water has saved lives in 3rd world countries thru Coconut IV.
  10. “Coconut water is the very stuff of Nature, biologically Pure, full of Natural Sugars, Salts, and Vitamins to ward off fatigue… and is the next wave of energy drinks BUT natural!”, according to Mortin Satin, Chielf of the United Nation’s Food & Agriculture Organization.
  11. Coconut water contains more potassium (at about 294 mg) than most sports drinks (117 mg) and most energy drinks.
  12. Coconut water has less sodium (25mg) where sports drinks have around 41mg and energy drinks have about 200 mg!
  13. Coconut water has 5mg of Natural Sugars where sports and energy drinks range from 10-25mg of Altered Sugars.
  14. Coconut water is very high in Chloride at 118mg, compared to sports drinks at about 39mg. {Data based on a 100ml drink.}
  15. Drink it raw as often as you can, packaged is okay in a pinch BUT RAW is BEST and most EFFECTIVE

✨Castor Oil ✨

Castor Oil II

DID YOU KNOW:

Andreas Kalcker  found that caster oil used in the vagina can destroy and remove ovarian cysts, and other cysts and tumors.

{Excerpt of NEW NEWSLETTER HEALTH DISCOVERIES OF THE GENESIS 2 CHURCH (05-19-2012)}

Castor Oil Health Benefits

What is Castor Oil?

  1. Castor Oil is a very pale yellow liquid that is extracted from castor seeds (Ricinus Communis).
  2. It is an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant oil which has been used for centuries for its therapeutic and medicinal benefits.
  3. It is believed that most of castor oil’s benefits are derived from its high concentration of unsaturated fatty acids.
  4. Although it has a strong and rather unpleasant taste, castor oil is used in cosmetics, soaps, textiles, medicines, massage oils and many other everyday products.

What are the Benefits of Castor Oil?

Castor Oil has been used both internally and externally for thousands of years due to its many wonderful health benefits. Since it can strengthen the immune system, castor oil is considered a great remedy for the following major illnesses and ailments:

✔️Multiple Sclerosis
✔️Parkinson’s Disease
✔️Cerebral Palsy
✔️Hair loss
✔️Pain from Arthritis and Rheumatism

It has also been found to help with many everyday problems such as:

✔️Yeast Infections
✔️Constipation
✔️Gastrointestinal Problems
✔️Menstrual Disorders
✔️Migraines
✔️Acne
✔️Sunburn
✔️Athlete’s Foot
✔️Ringworm
✔️Skin Abrasions
✔️Inflammation

Castor Oil is also commonly used to induce labour, so pregnant women should always consult a doctor before using it.

Uses of Castor Oil

Castor Oil

Arthritis Natural Remedy

The anti-inflammatory properties of Castor Oil make it an excellent massage oil for relieving arthritic joints, nerve inflammations, and sore muscles.

  1. Make a small pad by folding a small piece of unbleached cotton flannelette into 3 or 4 layers.
  2. Dip the cotton pad into Castor Oil and place it on to the affected joint or muscle.
  3. Cover the pad with a plastic wrap.
  4. Place a hot water bottle or heating pad over the plastic wrapped cotton pad. The plastic wrap will prevent the water bottle or heating pad from getting oily.
  5. Leave the cotton pad on for 45 minutes to an hour, once per day.
  6. This Castor Oil pack can be reused. Simply place it into a plastic ziplock bag and refrigerate it until it is ready to be used again. It can be refrigerated in a ziplock bag.

Constipation Remedy

Studies have shown that Castor Oil is a very strong laxative, which makes it very effective against constipation. Therefore, simply take a teaspoon of castor oil in the morning. You can mix the oil with orange juice, cranberry juice, prune juice, or ginger juice to take away from the bitter taste without affecting the laxative effects. However, do not take it continuously for more than 3 days. If symptoms persist for longer than 3 days, consult your physician immediately.

Ringworm Treatment

Ringworm is known to be a stubborn condition to treat, but one of the active compounds of Castor Oil (Undecylenic Acid) has been found to be very effective at treating this fungal infection.

  1. Spray Castor leaves with some hot water and coarsely crush the leaves. Soak the leaves in pure coconut oil.
  2. Warm the leaves to a temperature that will not burn the skin, and apply the leaves over the affected area as a poultice.
  3. Leave on the skin for at least one hour, or optionally overnight.
  4. You may wrap the leaves with unbleached cotton fabric to prevent the oil from staining your bed sheets.
  5. Repeat the procedure every night before going to bed until cured. However, if you notice any redness or discomfort around the area, discontinue this remedy.

Skin Problems

Successful studies have approved the use of Castor Oil for skin infections and other skin problems such as sunburn, abrasions, acne, dry skin, boils, warts, stretch marks, liver/age spots, athletes foot and chronic itching and inflamed skin.

  1. Dip a cotton ball into Castor oil and apply it onto the affected skin in the morning and at night.
  2. Alternatively, for larger skin areas, soak an appropriately large piece of unbleached cotton cloth in Castor Oil and wrap the affected area overnight.
  3. If the area is very small, soak a Band-Aid in Castor Oil and cover the infected skin overnight.
  4. For stubborn fungal infections that affect the skin or nails, it is recommended to soak the affected skin in Epsom Salt for 10-15 minutes to soften and disinfect the skin before applying Castor Oil. This can help speed up the healing process.

Stye Treatment

The anti-bacterial components of castor oil have been found to be effective against styes (oil gland infections on the eyelid). Simply apply a very small drop of the oil directly onto the stye 2 or 3 times per day.

Wrinkle Treatment

Castor oil is a natural emollient that penetrates the skin and helps stimulate the production of collagen and elastin which can soften and hydrate the skin. Therefore, it is a wonderful natural treatment for wrinkles since it restores and rejuvenates skin’s natural youthful appearance by making skin smoother, softer and pliant. Dip a small cotton ball into the oil and apply it on wrinkled skin before going to bed. Use only a small amount of oil when applying it to the skin near the eyes.

What are the Side Effects of Castor Oil?

Castor oil is normally safe if used in moderation. However, pregnant and lactating women and people with intestinal blockage, acute inflammatory intestinal disease, appendicitis, or abdominal pain should not take Castor Oil without their doctor’s approval.

Note that precautions must be taken when taking the oil internally, so you should always follow the directions on the package and consult your doctor or naturopathic professional before consuming it. A typical recommended dosage for the oil is no more than one-half to one full teaspoon per day. Overdosage of Castor Oil may result in diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or cramping.

Where and How to Buy Castor Oil

Castor Oil is best purchased from a health food store, since the oil that can be found in a supermarket may be meant for industrial use only {which is not safe for human consumption}. Look for cold-pressed or cold-processed oil only and confirm it with a naturopathic doctor before taking it. The color of the oil should be a very light or pale yellow.

?Why You Need to Eat the Right Foods for YOUR BODY ?

Summer Collage

Why You Need to Eat the Right Foods for Your Body…

The Down and Dirty on Clean Eating

It seems like everywhere you turn, someone is talking about clean eating. So what is all the hoopla about and what does “clean eating” actually mean anyways?

No, it doesn’t mean you are eating food that has been run through the washing machine, although it is a good idea to use a veggie wash on all of your produce before you eat it. Clean eating is all about being aware of the pathway your food had to go through from growth, to your plate. It is focused on the consumption of whole or real food and the reduction or elimination of processed, refined, or handled food from your diet.

Clean eating may sound easy to do, but with the convenience of fast food, and modern grocery stores offering so many processed options and unhealthy foods that do not require any preparation, there is temptation at every turn. So WHY is eating clean worth the hassle? Is it really worth the extra money and sometimes the extra preparation time? In one word – YES, and it can actually be quite simple to do too!

By eating raw, organic fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and good fats, the benefits go far beyond just weight loss. Eating clean promotes natural detoxification in the body and supports liver function. Simply put, the less “junk” clogging up your system, the less your body and specifically your liver has to work to eliminate waste and toxins in your body.

When you eat clean, you substantially improve how well your systems function. This translates into more energy and improved cognitive abilities, immune system functioning, mental state, skin, and hair. Who doesn’t want better skin and hair? When you clean up your insides, your outsides are sure to glow! Doesn’t that sound amazing?

If the benefits of eating clean don’t entice you, the downside of NOT eating clean will at least make you rethink your diet. The implications and problems associated with eating processed and unnatural foods are enormous.

Processed foods are loaded with genetically modified organisms (GMOs). GMOs have been linked to several major health issues such as cancer, diabetes, and infertility to name a few. Processed foods are also full of chemicals that are void of nutrients, and are often stripped of good vitamins and minerals our bodies need to function properly and help us perform and be at our very best.

So, are you ready to reset your health with clean eating? I know I was after I heard about the consequences of not eating clean! I was so tired of feeling sick and tired, I knew I had to jump off the hamster wheel and get REAL with my food (pun intended).

I'm ready count me in green button

Some general tips to remember when eating clean include:

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle fa-spin” color=”#ed9e36″] limit processed foods

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle fa-spin” color=”#ed9e36″] cut down on saturated fat

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle fa-spin” color=”#ed9e36″] eat lean meats

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle fa-spin” color=”#ed9e36″] cut out refined grains

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle fa-spin” color=”#ed9e36″] remove sugars/artificial sweeteners

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle fa-spin” color=”#ed9e36″] reduce or eliminate alcohol and tobacco consumption

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle fa-spin”] [udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-check-circle-o” color=”#ea9c35″] steer clear of anything with too many ingredients you can’t recognize as real food

Clean eating also includes drinking more water and increasing fruit and veggie intake. Raw and organic produce are the best options to avoid those nasty pesticides that increase toxicity in the body when consumed.  Filling up on fruits and veggies also keeps you full so you will be less likely to binge on unhealthy foods.

Want to know more? Are you eager to reap the benefits of clean eating yourself?  I can help!
