Top 5 Reasons Your Body Loves a Detox

There are a million reasons to detox – and probably a million different ways to go about it. But, what must one look for, what’s the best way?

I’ve seen from my years in practice that to be completely effective, a detox program needs to contain the following key components:

  • some fiber to scrub the gut, bind toxins and promote their elimination
  • anti-microbial herbs to kill bad bugs in the gut and maintain healthy flora
  • targeted nutrients to boost the liver and prevent the accumulation of toxins
  • digestive enzymes to help the body break down food and assist digestion
  • a balanced blend of vitamins & minerals to safely support you during detox
  • a dietary plan that eliminates problem foods, but doesn’t leave you feeling hungry

An effective detox must not only address the toxins we eat, drink, breath and put on our bodies every day – but just as important – it MUST contain the specific ingredients needed to neutralize or eliminate the internal toxins the body creates as it performs it’s normal everyday functions.

Without these targeted nutrients to clear out the bodies own biochemical and cellular waste, your body won’t be getting the cleanse it really needs.

A safe and effective cleanse won’t:

  • make you feel woozy from lack of nutrients or food.
  • have you praying for the detox to end.
  • make dining with family and friends almost impossible.
  • starve you for weeks.

What it will do is:

  • kill bad bacteria in the belly that are a major source of toxicity and weight gain.
  • clear out accumulated toxins that slow digestion and elimination.
  • drench your body in nutrients leaving you feeling energized and vibrant.

Here are my top five reasons to do a good detox every now and then:

1. A good detox will make your engine purr

Just like your car runs better after a tune-up, our bodies function better when they’re purged of the built-up waste products and toxins that compromise health. A truly effective detox must go beyond fasting or juicing by supplying the specific ingredients needed to boost the body’s own detoxification system. The toxins and chemicals of modern industrial life assault our bodies every day. Our systems are constantly neutralizing and eliminating them, but the problem is, over time, this exposure overwhelms the detox organs, (primarily the liver and the gut). So, instead of getting eliminated, toxins wind up being stored in various tissues, bodily functions start to slow then falter, setting the stage for the development of chronic diseases.

A periodic detox will keep your engine humming and help you to maintain good health in the long-term.

2. A detox has wonderful side effects

Although the primary goal of a good detox is to reset and optimize detox function, the side effects are wonderful too – most people will experience:

  • Weight loss
  • A boost in energy levels
  • Less bloating and puffiness
  • Clearer skin
  • Improved digestion
  • Better sleep
  • Relief from aches and pains

3. A detox program is like a vacation for digestion

A good cleanse resets your body, giving it a fresh start. Your digestve organs will get a vacation from the bad stuff allowing your body’s natural detoxification systems to reboot and return to peak performance.  Herbal anti-microbials diminish the flood of internal toxins from yeast and parasites, lightening the load on the liver so it doesn’t get overwhelmed. Digestive enzymes ensure fewer negative effects from undigested foods. Fiber feeds the cells lining the intestines thereby supporting cellular integrity and decreasing inflammation. Eliminating foods that often cause sensitivities or reactions will give your digestive system a well earned rest.

4. A good detox will create a heightened sense of well-being

A good detox should make you feel buoyant, energetic and vital, not spaced-out, deprived, physically weak or cranky. By not ingesting the toxins and irritants that are a common cause of sensitivities, reactions, irritation and inflammation – and by supplementing with digestive enzymes, fiber and herbal anti-bacterials, the work load on your body is reduced – which leaves your engine with more energy for other things. You should feel lighter and more mentally focused.

5. A good detox could possibly change your life

One of the most powerful things I see in my practice is the life-changing effects of living a healthier lifestyle. Not only is an effective cleanse like giving yourself a good wash and polish on the inside, but it often makes a powerful entry point into living a healthier lifestyle. Many of my patients feel such a big change in such a short time, that they want to remain feeling that way. A good cleanse can kick-start healthy habits and get you started on the path of smarter choices and sustainable health – the cornerstone of long-term wellness.

You simply feel so good and you don’t want it to stop.

OK, so what’s the best way?

No matter which detox you choose, be sure that it supplies all of the critical components needed for an effective detox. Remember that a good cleanse is not about deprivation or starvation, it’s an active process. It’s not just about juices or powders or pills, but equally about supporting yourself with fresh nourishing food to replenish your system.

With your detox systems running smoothly your body will perform more efficiently (just like it should), leaving you looking and feeling better than ever.

✔︎All ABOUT Epsom Salt Baths PLUS Recipes!

Lees Summit Chiropractor Detox Bath

Epsom salts have been used by many different cultures for hundreds of years. They have a number of different beneficial properties and are used in gardening, household cleaning and detoxifying the body. These salts are very inexpensive and can be purchased at bulk discounts in garden centers nearly everywhere. Using Epsom salt baths is an advanced detoxification strategy that has remarkable health benefits.
See Here Epsom Salts Bath
Epsom salts are named for a bitter saline spring located at Epsom in Surrey, England. Epsom is different than traditional salts in that it is actually a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. These minerals have very powerful health benefits that can enhance the detoxification capabilities of the body.

Magnesium and sulfate are both readily absorbed through the skin and into the body’s blood stream. The skin is a highly porous membrane that both takes in minerals and eliminates toxins every day. Using a powerful mineral base such as Epsom salts in a bathwater medium creates a process called reverse osmosis. This process pulls salt and harmful toxins out of the body and allows the magnesium and sulfates to enter into the body.

Magnesium plays a critical role in over 325 enzymes, helps to improve muscle and nerve function, reduces inflammation and improves blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body. Sulfates are necessary building blocks for healthy joints, skin and nervous tissue. Epsom salts replenish the body’s magnesium levels and sulfates. This combination helps to flush toxins from the body and helps build key protein molecules in the brain tissue and joints.

The use of regular Epsom Salt Baths has been shown to improve the symptoms of many health conditions including athlete’s foot, gout, toenail fungus, sprains, bruises and muscle soreness. It is also good for anyone dealing with chronic disease or chronic pain to do regular Epsom baths to help detoxify and de-inflame while improving mineral and sulfur balance in the body.

How to Detox Bath

How to take an Epsom salt bath:

The first step is to schedule yourself at least 40 minutes, as you need about 20 minutes to remove the toxins, and for the second 20 minutes, the body absorbs the minerals in the bath water.
Fill up your bath with warm water. Be sure to have a water filtration system in your house, as you don’t want to bathe in tap water that has toxic chlorine, fluoride, dioxins and heavy metals. Add in the Epsom salts in the following amounts:

Children under 60 lbs: Add 1/2 cup of salts to a standard size bath
Individuals between 60-100 lbs: Add 1 cup of salts to a standard size bath
Individuals between 100-150 lbs: Add 1 1/2 cup of salts to a standard size bath
Individuals between 150-200 lbs: Add 2 cups of salts to a standard size bath
For every 50lbs larger – add in an additional 1/2 cup of salts.

Additional strategies to apply with an Epsom salt bath

  • Epsom Salts or Bath Salts like Celtic or Himalayan Sea Salt – wonderful for drawing toxins out of the body and establishing proper pH—Epsom salts can even raise magnesium levels in the body! Use 1 to 2 cups per bath—the more you use, the more powerful the effect.

  • Baking soda – Soothes the skin, alkalizes the body and is a natural antifungal. Use 1/2 to 2 cups per bath (a great adjunct to Epsom salts).

  • Apple Cider Vinegar – Neutralizes body pH and invigorates and softens the skin (note: be cautious when combining baking soda and apple cider vinegar—you may wish to do one or the other). Use is 1 cup per bath.

  • Essential Oils – Lavender is excellent in a bath, typically 10 to 20 drops will do the trick. Consider adding other relaxing essential oils, such as: basil, bergamot, chamomile, clary sage, frankincense, juniper, marjoram, neroli, rose and rosewood, sandalwood, sage and ylang ylang. Typical use is 10 to 20 drops, but depends on the intensity of the essential oil.

  • Clays such as bentonite or monmoillonite – A powerful drawing agent, pulling toxic elements out of your body like a magnet. Clay can also do wonders on draining and circulating lymph in the body. Use 2 cups per bath as an occasional treat.

 Best Detox Bath

A Recipe for the Perfect Bath

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Epsom Salts
  • 1 to 2 cups Baking Soda
  • 10 to 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (or your preferred essential oil of choice)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup olive oil or coconut oil for dry skin (optional)

Instructions:

Begin by turning the water on, setting it for a temperature as hot as you are able to tolerate (heat dissipates quickly, so it is often better to set the bath too hot rather than too cool). Add the Epsom or bath salts, baking soda, essential oil and olive oil, making sure to stir so that the salts and baking soda dissolve completely. Fill the tub to the desired depth and dip a toe into the water. If the water is too hot, simply add some cold water to balance the temperature to your preferred setting. Submerge your body into the tub and enjoy a good soak for as long as you desire (but no shorter than 15 minutes for optimal results).

NOTE: Make sure to drink plenty of water prior to your bath and after your bath. The bath tends to draw out from the body and can be dehydrating otherwise. For bonus points, buy a filter for your shower and run the water for your bath through the filter (to filter out chlorine and other unsavory elements). If this is not an option, add 1/2 a cup of clay to your bath to help keep the exposure to a minimum.

?8 SIMPLE Truths about Detox

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”] 8 Truths You Should Know About Detox

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”] 1.  Many people get worse before they get better. Remember symptoms we suppressed for years because of poor eating and poor self-care. Detox opens the pathway for poor health to be reversed and released. BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF.  While the body cleanses, symptoms will reappear, this is known as a “healing crisis” it’s a GOOD thing!

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”] 2.  True health and wellness takes time. This did not happen over night.  A 21-day detox plan isn’t going to fix the years and years of abuse we’ve put on ourselves. But 5, 10, 14 and 21 days is still a wonderful start! We all have to start somewhere!!!

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”]  3. You will have highs and you will have lows. These are the toxins being cleansed and replaced. We carry emotions deep in our cell walls, they must be released for true health to be witnessed.

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”] 4.  K.I.S.S.> Keep It Simple Silly… well that sums that up.

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”]  5. Add in self care tools. Your skin is a living breathing organ made up of cells and eliminative organs… Dry Skin Brushing, Epsom Salt Baths, Rebounding, Bowen Therapy, Sweat Lodges/Saunas/Steam Rooms, Meditation, Gentle Yoga, REST, and walks in nature are a few. I can think of 20 more! How about you?

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”]  6. Herbs can make everything better. Depending upon the severity of your health challenges, adding in herbs to your will help your body along in its health process and move things that buried deep in your body. Nt all herbs agree with everyBody, muscle testing is an option.

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”] 7.   Balance is the KEY to your success. Start slow, ease your way in. Have some success, enjoy it, then dig deeper. Going deep then pulling back is a great strategy for most. Digging too deep too soon can be a huge stressor to your system and make you want to give up. REMEMBER we are  Powering Up! Not giving up! Getting help, at least a month from a Detox Specialists is a good idea. Depending on your specific needs you may require more support, whatever is okay, as long as you are realistic with what you need to succeed.

[udesign_icon_font name=”fa fa-leaf” color=”#48bc1a”] 8. REMEMBER: What you suppress today is your nightmare tomorrow. Face your challenges, claim your health back, it’s your birth right. RUN out of HellVille and Jump into Wellville.

POWER UP!!!! xo- Clarissa

LOVE YOUR LIVER

Take care of your liver, nurture your liver, love your liver and it will LOVE you back for a long time.

liver-disease-s3a-liver-functions
The liver filters and processes blood as it circulates through the body. It metabolizes nutrients, detoxifies harmful substances, makes blood clotting proteins, and performs many other vital functions. The cells in the liver contain proteins called enzymes that drive these chemical reactions.

The liver also stores some nutrients, such as vitamin A, iron, and other minerals. It produces cholesterol and certain important proteins, such as albumin. It produces clotting factors, chemicals needed to help blood clot. It breaks down (metabolizes) alcohol and many drugs.

We live in a world bombarded by toxins everywhere we turn, we all could use some daily detoxification tools.  In order to truly heal my gut, I MUST be detoxing well every day.  The lymph and liver need our daily attention to succeed with overall health and that includes OUR gut.

Did YOU know:

✔︎The average American consumes 10 pounds of chemical food additives each year.

?SPROUTS ? are famous but do you know why?

Sprouts are totally the answer for highly concentrated nutrients and phytochemicals.

“Each Sprout May Contain as Many Phytochemicals as an Entire Plant (and there are about 4000 baby plants in a package of sprouts)

Green vegetables, high in phytochemicals, prevent certain types of cancer. For instance, between 1958 and 1960, Sulforaphane was isolated in species of Brassica, Eruca, and Iberis. In 1992 Sulforaphane was identified as as a strong Phase II enzyme inducer in Broccoli.

In 1994 Steve Meyerowitz, in his book Sprout It!, points out that sulforaphane, known to prevent cancer, is inherent in Broccoli, kale, turnip, garlic, onion and Chinese cabbage.
Brassica vegetables are a principal source of antioxidant vitamins. Sprouts have advantages over mature Broccoli in that they contain higher concentrations of inducers, and the inducers mainly affect phase 2 enzyme systems. Information about the role of each nutrient and phytochemical is of critical importance.
Why do sprouts have higher concentrations of inducers? There is an inverse relationship between the age of a plant and the amount of glucosinolates per gram that it contains.

“Sprouts have long been famous as “health food” but recent research shows that in addition to being a superb source of nutrients, they also have important curative ability. Sprouts like Alfalfa, radish, Broccoli, Clover and Soy Bean contain concentrated amounts of phytochemicals (plant compounds) that can protect us against disease.

Studies on canavanine, an amino acid analog in Alfalfa, has demonstrated benefit for pancreatic, colon and leukemia cancers. Plant estrogens are also abundant in sprouts. They increase bone formation and density and prevent bone breakdown or osteoporosis. They are also helpful in controlling hot flashes, menopause, PMS and fibrocystic breast tumors.
Alfalfa sprouts are one of our finest food sources of another compound, saponins. Saponins lower the bad cholesterol and fat but not the good HDL fats. Animal studies prove their benefit in arteriosclerosis is and cardiovascular disease. Saponins also stimulate the immune system by increasing the activity of natural killer cells such as T- lymphocytes and interferon. The saponin content of Alfalfa sprouts multiplies 450% over that of the unsprouted seed.
Sprouts also contain an abundance of highly active antioxidants that prevent DNA destruction and protect us from the ongoing effects of aging. It wouldn’t be inconceivable to find a fountain of youth here, after all, sprouts represent the miracle of birth.”

The POWER of Therapuetic Grade Essential Oils

Cinnamon Spice Diffuser Blend

By Olivier Wenker, MD, MBA, ABAARM, DEAA, Physician for Integrative, Anti-aging, and Regenerative Medicine, Fellow in Metabolic and Nutritional medicine, Fellow in Integrative Oncology, Member of the Medical and Scientific Council and International Keynote Speaker Young Living Essential Oils.

The integration of old remedies such as essential oils should be an important part of a holistic anti-aging lifestyle. Come and take a glimpse into this “Back-to-the-Future” approach to health, wellness, and integrative anti-aging.

Essential oils represent the purest, highest concentrated, and most complete form of what plants have to offer. Modern medicine usually isolates a single compound from this vast and wonderful world to create a synthetic version, and when taken often comes with negative side effects. Essential oils on the other hand are composed of hundreds if not thousands of compounds working symphonically to treat or prevent the underlying problem. This explains why a single essential oil such as Peppermint can reduce nausea, improve pain, or improve mental sharpness and physical fitness amongst other uses.
Essential Oils for Beauty
The use of essential oils for beauty and attraction goes back thousands of years. Cleopatra used Frankincense and Myrrh essential oils in her skin care ointments. Most oils display very high antioxidant properties which delay premature aging of the skin. Essential oils have been shown to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, hydration, firmness, elasticity, and texture of the skin as well as support for the regeneration and repair of skin cells. These oils include Frankincense, Myrrh, Geranium, Sandalwood, Helichrysum, Lavender, Cistus, Carrot Seed, Elemi, Rose, Patchouli, Neroli, and Palmarosa. My favorites for the face include Sacred Frankincense, Elemi, and Sandalwood. Once absorbed into the skin they should be followed by Neroli (Orange Blossom) which has an extremely pleasant scent and is also known to be a pheromone with seductive properties. Sun exposure should be avoided for at least 12 hours after using these oils on the skin.
Essential Oils for Fitness and Physical Performance
All fitness fans will be happy to hear that essential oils can be used for doping-free performance enhancement. The basic regimen consists of a pre-workout use, possibly an in-between workout and then definitively an after-workout application. It can be as simple as using just 4 different essential oils: just prior to your fitness session apply several drops of Peppermint combined with Idaho Blue Spruce to your muscles and then inhale for about 20 seconds from your hands. This will widen the airways and increase oxygen uptake while improving muscle function and potentially activating androgen receptors for better muscle building. Daily exercise is not only very important for overall health but is also one of the best methods to prevent or improve age-related brain problems such as memory loss, dementia, or Alzheimer’s. Combining daily physical activity with those essential oils known to improve blood flow and oxygenation of the brain could be very beneficial for such patients. Other oils such as Grapefruit, Nutmeg, Black Pepper, Chocolate, Peppermint, and Spearmint are known to support metabolism, an effect desired by most people working out.

Essential Oils for Anti-aging

Many natural compounds have excellent antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. Essential oils are typically very high in antioxidant power and can therefore neutralize free radicals which are known to cause premature aging. In addition, essential oils can interact on a molecular level with cells supporting healthy cell cycles and cell regeneration as well as hormonal balancing. There is a lot of truth to the quote “You are what you eat.” Spices such as Oregano, Rosemary, Ginger, Lemon, Sage, Thyme, and Tarragon not only have antibacterial properties during food preparation but also significantly reduce the formation of carcinogens when cooking meat on the grill. Cinnamon and Ocotea are capable of reducing blood sugars, and Melissa can reduce triglycerides in the blood by influencing the way liver cells deal with fat metabolism. All of these properties make essential oils an important cornerstone in a holistic approach to anti-aging medicine.

When using essential oils as described in this article make sure you only use high-quality and therapeutic grade essential oils.
